24/7 Emergency Recovery: Newcastle upon Tyne & the North East

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Plain answers to the questions we hear most often. If yours is not here, call us on 07763 706 830.

Getting help fast

How quickly can you reach me?

Arrival time depends on your location, traffic and our current workload, so we do not quote a fixed figure. When you call, we will give you an honest estimate based on where you are and what is happening on the roads at the time. If your situation changes while you wait, call us back and we will update you.

Are you available at night and at weekends?

Yes. Our emergency recovery is available 24 hours a day, every day, including evenings and weekends. Call 07763 706 830 whenever you need help. For planned vehicle transport, we can usually agree a collection time in advance that suits you, your garage or the seller.

What should I have ready when I call?

Tell us where you are as precisely as you can, what vehicle you have, what has happened and where you would like it taken. Road numbers, junctions, landmarks or a what3words address all help. Let us know if anyone needs to travel with the vehicle and whether it is electric, hybrid or automatic.

Can you recover a vehicle from my home?

Yes. If your car will not start on your driveway, in a garage or on the street outside, we can help. If the problem is a flat battery, a jump start may get you going. Let us know about access, such as narrow lanes, low garage roofs, steep drives or restricted parking, so we can plan the job.

Where can you take my vehicle?

We can take your vehicle to your home, a garage or dealership of your choice, a bodyshop, or another safe address. If you are not sure where it should go, we can talk through the options with you. For journeys outside the North East, we can arrange transport by agreement.

Which areas do you cover?

We cover Newcastle upon Tyne and the surrounding area, including Gateshead, Wallsend, North Shields, South Shields, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, Gosforth, Jesmond, Heaton, Longbenton, Killingworth, Cramlington, Blyth, Ponteland, Blaydon, Washington and Sunderland. We also travel further across the North East, and beyond for planned transport. If you are unsure, just call and ask.

Vehicle transport

Do you recover vans?

Yes, we recover and transport vans as well as cars. Tell us the make, model and approximate size, and whether it is loaded, as weight and dimensions affect what is needed. Very large or heavily loaded vehicles may need different arrangements, and we will tell you honestly what we can do when you call.

Can you recover non-running cars?

Yes. We move cars that will not start, have mechanical faults or have been off the road for a long time. It helps to know whether the car rolls, steers and brakes, whether the keys are present and whether any tyres are flat. That lets us plan the loading and confirm the price accurately.

Can you transport vehicles outside Newcastle?

Yes. As well as local work across Tyneside, we transport vehicles across the North East and to other parts of the UK by arrangement. Long-distance jobs are usually planned in advance. Give us the collection and delivery addresses and the vehicle details, and we will confirm the price before anything is booked.

Can you collect cars from auctions?

Yes. We collect vehicles from auction sites and private sellers on behalf of buyers. No official partnership with any auction house is implied, so you arrange payment and release as normal. Send us the collection address, any reference the site needs, the vehicle details and the collection deadline, and we will take it from there.

Can you recover electric vehicles?

We recover electric and hybrid vehicles, normally on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground, as most manufacturers recommend. What is possible depends on the vehicle, its condition and the equipment needed. Tell us the make, model, charge level and any warning messages when you call, so we can plan the job properly.

Can you move a car to or from a garage?

Yes. We collect vehicles from homes and take them to garages, bodyshops or MOT centres, then bring them back once the work is done. This is useful for non-runners, cars without a valid MOT and vehicles you would rather not drive. Let us know the addresses and any opening hours we need to work around.

Pricing and trust

How much does recovery cost?

Cost depends on distance, the vehicle and the work involved, such as where it is parked, whether it rolls and where it needs to go. We confirm the price with you before we set off, so you know exactly where you stand. We do not publish fixed prices because every job is different.

Will the price change once you arrive?

The price we confirm is based on the information you give us, so please describe the situation as accurately as you can. If we arrive and the job is very different, for example the vehicle is in a ditch rather than on a driveway, we will explain why and agree any change with you before doing the work.

Are you insured?

Ask us about our insurance when you call and we will happily confirm the cover that applies to your vehicle and job before we set off.

Can I get a price for planned transport in advance?

Yes. For planned jobs, give us the collection and delivery addresses, the vehicle details and whether it runs, and we will give you a price before anything is booked. You can call 07763 706 830, email info@tyneroadrescue.co.uk or use our contact page. There is no obligation to go ahead once you have the price.

Are you a local company?

Yes. Tyne Road Rescue is a local recovery and transport operator serving Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider North East. Our company and insurance details are listed on our About page, and we are happy to answer any questions about who we are and how we work before you book anything.

How will you look after my vehicle?

We take time to load and secure every vehicle carefully, using the right method for its condition and type. If there is existing damage, we will point it out before loading. Remove valuables and loose items before collection, and let us know about anything unusual, such as low ground clearance or modifications, when you book.

Safety at the roadside

What should I do if I break down on a motorway?

Move to the left, ideally leaving at the next exit or pulling onto the hard shoulder or into an emergency area. Switch on your hazard lights, leave by the left-hand doors if it is safe, and wait behind the barrier. Do not attempt repairs or put out a warning triangle. Then call for help.

What if I stop in a live lane?

If your vehicle stops in a running lane and you cannot get out safely, stay in the vehicle with your seatbelt on and hazard lights switched on, and call 999 immediately. Only get out if you are sure you can reach a safe place behind the barrier without crossing traffic. Arrange recovery once you are safe.

Should I call 999 or a recovery company?

Call 999 first if anyone is injured or in danger, if your vehicle is blocking a live lane, or if there is a risk of fire. Once everyone is safe and the emergency services have what they need, call us on 07763 706 830 to arrange recovery of your vehicle to your home or a garage.

Should I wait in my car or outside?

It depends on where you are. On a motorway or fast road, get out by the left-hand doors and wait behind the barrier if it is safe. On a quiet residential street, waiting in the car may be fine. In severe winter weather, if you are safely off the road, staying with the vehicle is usually safest.

Can I change a flat tyre myself?

Only if the car is somewhere safe, well away from traffic, on firm level ground, and you are confident doing it. Never change a tyre on a motorway hard shoulder or beside fast traffic. Many modern cars have no spare wheel, only a repair kit. If you are in any doubt, call for help instead.

What should I do after an accident?

Make sure everyone is safe and call 999 if anyone is hurt, the road is blocked or there is a hazard such as leaking fuel. Exchange details with any other drivers involved and take photos if it is safe to do so. Once the scene is safe, we can recover your vehicle to your home, a garage or a bodyshop.
