A quick guide for Gosforth drivers
Gosforth sits on the northern edge of Newcastle, and a lot of traffic passes through it. Commuters, shoppers and people heading out towards the A1 all use the same handful of routes, so one stranded car can cause a queue fast.
Tyne Road Rescue recovers cars, vans and some motorcycles across Gosforth and the neighbouring parts of NE3. We also move vehicles that aren't broken down at all but need to get from one place to another without being driven.
Roads that see the most breakdowns
In practice, the trouble spots around Gosforth tend to fall into a few groups:
- Great North Road and the High Street. Stop-start traffic, bus stops and parked cars leave little room to pull over. Clutch and overheating problems often show up here.
- Around Regent Centre. Office and Metro car parks fill with cars that sit all day. A flat battery at home time is a familiar story.
- Towards Gosforth Park and Great Park. Faster roads link up with the A1 Western Bypass, and race days at Newcastle Racecourse bring extra traffic.
- Kingston Park and Fawdon. Retail and residential traffic mix, with plenty of short trips that are hard on older batteries.
If you've stopped somewhere awkward, put your hazards on and move to a safe spot away from the traffic. If you're in danger or blocking a live lane, call 999 before you call us.
Driveways, garages and cul-de-sacs
Large parts of Gosforth are made up of semi-detached homes with drives, garages and quiet cul-de-sacs, alongside older terraces nearer the High Street. Each brings its own small challenges. A car reversed tight into a garage, or parked on a steep drive, may need careful handling before it can be loaded.
Our home start service is often the first step. We'll try to get the car running where it sits. If it needs to go to a garage, we'll load it and take it there.
It helps us if you mention any low walls, gates or tight turns when you call. Those details mean we can bring the right truck and avoid wasted time.
Parked on the road outside? Check whether the car is on a single yellow line or in a restricted bay, because that can affect how long it can safely stay put. If you're not sure, tell us and we'll factor it into how soon the car needs moving. Leaving a car where it might be ticketed or towed only adds to the stress of a breakdown.
Transport to and from NE3
Gosforth has plenty of main dealers, independent garages and bodyshops within easy reach, and we move cars between them regularly. People also ask us to collect vehicles bought online, take cars into storage or deliver a car to a family member elsewhere in the country.
For planned moves, see our vehicle transport in Newcastle page. We'll agree a collection time that suits you, and if the vehicle doesn't run, just tell us so we can plan for it.
Calling us from Gosforth
When you ring 07763 706 830, we'll ask for:
- Your location, ideally a street name or nearby landmark.
- The make and model of the vehicle, and whether it's a car or a van.
- What happened, and whether the car rolls and steers.
- Where you'd like the vehicle taken.
We'll then confirm the price, which depends on distance, the vehicle and the work involved, and give you an honest estimate of arrival. That depends on location, traffic and our current workload, so we won't make promises we can't keep.
Neighbouring areas
We also work just south in Jesmond and east in Longbenton, plus right across the city. Prefer to send details first? Use the contact page or email info@tyneroadrescue.co.uk and we'll get back to you.
