Recovery on the coast at Tynemouth
Tynemouth is a small place with a lot going on. Visitors head for the Priory and Castle, the Longsands and the Front Street cafes, while residents deal with the everyday business of school runs and commuting into Newcastle. Breakdowns here tend to happen at the worst moment, often with a car park full of people watching.
Tyne Road Rescue covers Tynemouth around the clock. We collect vehicles that have failed on the road, cars that won't start on a driveway and vehicles that need moving to a garage or a new home. If it can be safely loaded, we can usually move it.
Where drivers get stuck around Tynemouth
Most traffic reaches Tynemouth along the A1058 Coast Road from Newcastle, or along the A193 that links North Shields, Tynemouth and Cullercoats. The Coast Road carries heavy commuter traffic, and a car that stops in a running lane there needs moving quickly.
Along the seafront, Grand Parade and the roads by King Edward's Bay get very busy on sunny weekends. Flat batteries are common after a long day parked up with the radio or phone charger running, and a jump start is often all that's needed. Our battery jump start service covers the coast as well as the city.
Event days, such as markets at the Metro station, also mean tighter roads and fewer places to pull in. If you're stuck, stay with the vehicle if it's safe and tell us exactly where you are. A nearby landmark helps a lot.
Home starts in older streets
Much of Tynemouth is older housing, with terraces, period properties and narrow side streets where cars park nose to tail. That can make a home start or recovery a little more involved, because a recovery truck needs room to position safely.
When you call, it helps to tell us how the car is parked, whether it's in a garage or a back lane, and whether the wheels and steering are free. If the vehicle can't be driven onto the truck, we'll talk through how it can be moved before anyone sets off.
Moving a vehicle out of Tynemouth
Not every job is an emergency. We regularly move cars that have been off the road for months, cars bought privately that need collecting, and classics that the owner would rather not drive. Our vehicle transport service handles local moves to a garage in North Shields or Newcastle, and longer trips across the country.
If you're heading over the river, the Tyne Tunnels give a direct route south towards South Shields and the A19. For a car going to a dealer, a bodyshop or a storage unit, we'll agree the pickup time and drop-off point in advance.
What happens when you call us
Ring 07763 706 830 and tell us where you are, what the vehicle is and what's gone wrong. We'll ask a few quick questions so we bring the right equipment. You'll get an honest estimate of when we can reach you, which depends on location, traffic and current workload.
Before we set off we confirm the price. Cost depends on distance, the vehicle and the work involved, so there are no surprises when we arrive. Once loaded, we can take the vehicle home, to your garage or to a place you choose.
If you're further along the coast, see our pages for vehicle recovery in Whitley Bay and North Shields. For anything else, use our contact page or email info@tyneroadrescue.co.uk.
Staying safe while you wait
If you've stopped on the Coast Road or another fast road and you're in danger or blocking a live lane, call 999 first. Otherwise, switch your hazard lights on, get yourself and any passengers out on the side away from traffic if it's safe, and wait somewhere secure. On a quiet residential street, staying in the car with the doors locked is often the sensible choice, especially at night.
